(RE)decorate for the season

Tis’ the season to (Re)decorate your home!  Check out these 5 tips from Revolve Estate to keep your home cozy throughout the chilly, winter months.

Less is more

Don’t overcrowd your home with too much unless you’re removing your year-round decor.  It’s OK to add the garland, but take down everything else that is normally in its place.  Same goes for shelves, centerpieces, and other displays.  You can also swap out current pictures in frames with seasonal photos from years past.  Try turning them into black & white or add a vintage filter and have them reprinted.

Just because the season has traditional colors, doesn’t mean you have to use them

There isn’t a speck of red in my home decor, mostly because I don’t love it, so I will not be putting up any holiday decorations with red.  Same goes for other holidays with distinct colors like Halloween, Valentines Day, Easter, etc.  If you have a lot of black and white throughout your home, find decorations that match it rather than colors that clash with it.

Save money by thrifting

Your local Goodwill, Salvation Army and similar donation stores will be loaded with decorations this time of year.  Set aside an afternoon to spin through a few places instead of paying full price at your normal retailer.  You might be surprised at what you can find.  While you’re there, donate old decorations while you’re looking for something new!

See what nature can give you for FREE

Does your backyard have fallen branches or pine cones?  Take a look around and grab some, tie-on a piece ribbon or add some sparkle!

Switch to LED

LED lights save energy and last longer than the incandescent lights of the past.  On average, it costs around $10 to keep a tree lit with incandescent lights versus $1.50 for LED.  Not to mention trying to find the “bulb culprit” that shorted your entire string of lights...
